Baylor Research Institute (BRI) has 18 research centers / institutes currently conducting research under their auspices in 20 different medical specialties. The researchers within these centers and institutes are experts in their therapeutic area. BRI’s research program exceeds federal regulatory requirements for research subject protection and represents current best practices.

BRI promotes and supports research bringing innovative treatments from the laboratory workbench to the patient bedside. To achieve this bench-to-bedside concept, the institute focuses on basic science, clinical trials, and health care effectiveness and quality of care research. Baylor recruits leading physicians and scientists to enhance its scientific base and provide advanced patient therapies. Approximately 250 research investigators, experienced in drug, device and vaccine studies conduct their research through BRI.

BRI has invested in advanced core facilities to assist researchers in answering the scientific questions that lead to innovative therapies. The core facilities include basic mass spectrometry to an innovative GMP Cell Core that has released over 360 dendritic cell vaccines that have been administered to patients. Research keeps physicians within Baylor Health Care System on the forefront of medical knowledge. Investigators conducting research at Baylor medical centers publish research findings in top-tier medical journals, such as Science, The New England Journal of Medicine, Transplantationand Lancet. Baylor Health Care System also publishes Baylor University Medical Center Proceedings a quarterly research journal detailing research and clinical activities at Baylor. In 2006, Baylor published almost 400 articles in peer reviewed publications.

Baylor Research Institute is affiliated with the Biomedical Studies Program of Baylor University. Baylor University graduate students participate in research in BRI labs for their doctoral thesis work under the direction of adjunct faculty.
