Baylor Research Institute Institutional Review Board
The Office of Research Subject Protection at BRI has responsibility for the two Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
The IRBs are composed of Physicians and other health care professionals from within Baylor Health Care
System and community representatives from the DFW Metroplex. Our diverse membership includes MD’s,
PhD’s, nurses, social workers, ministers, attorneys, pharmacists and other community
representatives.
There are approximately 700 active research projects involving human subjects being conducted under
the auspices of both IRBs.
The Office of Research Subject Protection provides staff support for the IRBs, maintains IRB records,
and informs researchers of federal and institutional regulations and guidelines (including changes)
governing IRB activities.
AAHRPP Accreditation
The AAHRPP Accreditation Program is a voluntary, peer driven, educationally based model of
accreditation. It seeks to recognize high quality human research protection programs of
Organizations that use human beings in research. To receive accreditation standards must meet or
exceed federal regulatory requirements for protection, and are reasonable, attainable, and
representative of current best practices. Baylor Research Institute received Full Accreditation from
AAHRPP in December of 2003 and was re-accreditation in 2006.
Meeting Schedule
Baylor Research Institute has two Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) that meet monthly to expedite the review process.
