Yan Xiao is directing patient safety research at Baylor Heath Care System, Dallas, Texas. After finishing doctoral training in human factors from University of Toronto in 1994, Dr. Xiao joined University of Maryland School of Medicine to conduct research in communication, coordination, information technology, team performance and clinical alarms. Most recently he was a tenured professor of anesthesiology at University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Xiao is the author of more than 130 journal and proceeding articles and book chapters. His current research has been supported by National Science Foundation, National Patient Safety Foundation, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. His current research interests include team communication and technology supported coordination. He is associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, & Cybernetics, an editorial board member of Human Factors, and a faculty member in F1000 Medicine.
